Strong schools require both high standards and an open mind.
Katie's priorities grow from her experience as a lifelong Laker, former coach and parent: preserve what makes Spring Lake special, bring new perspectives where they are needed, and expand meaningful opportunities for every student.

Transparency & Respectful Leadership
Katie wants to bring a reasonable, responsible and respectful approach to board service. Public schools belong to the community, and families and taxpayers should be able to understand how decisions are made, what information those decisions are based on and how public resources are being used. She supports clear communication, accessible information and a board culture where thoughtful questions and different perspectives are welcomed and handled respectfully.
Parents as Partners
As the parent of two Spring Lake-age boys, Katie understands that parents have a central role in their children's upbringing and education. Schools work best when parents, teachers, administrators and students communicate openly and work together. Families should be informed, heard and welcomed as meaningful partners in their children's education.

Exceptional Education for Every Path
Success after high school does not look the same for every student. Spring Lake should provide excellent preparation for students pursuing skilled trades, apprenticeships, community college, four-year universities, military service, entrepreneurship or highly selective universities. Every path deserves serious preparation and respect.

Opportunity Beyond the Classroom
As a former coach and a parent whose family is involved in sports, music, youth group and the outdoors, Katie sees the value of experiences beyond the classroom. Athletics and activities teach teamwork, discipline, resilience, leadership and belonging. Student interests are evolving beyond the traditional menu of football, basketball and soccer, and the district should be willing to consider emerging sports and activities while working to ensure that participation does not depend primarily on a family's ability to pay for private or club programs.
Preparing Students for the World Beyond Spring Lake
Students should graduate with strong academic foundations, practical skills, confidence and the ability to adapt. Education should help students understand how to communicate, collaborate, solve problems and make informed decisions as they move into college, careers and adult life.
